OCO – distinctive new bollard from Cobe and Lampas

Cobe is responsible for the design of a new light for Lampas. The OCO L1500 bollard was designed by architect Mikkel Reedtz Morris together with architect Claes Nilsson from Cobe’s design studio based in Copenhagen’s Nordhavn district.

OCO L1500 delivers a sense of striking simplicity, with its severed, offset tube. The clean-cut shape stimulates curiosity and adds character to the path or space where it is installed.

“Our starting point was: How simple can we make it? So the light comes in the simplistic form of two cylinders in balance with each other,” explains Mikkel Reedtz Morris. “You can envisage a tube containing energy. When you sever the tube and then combine it in a new way, the energy escapes in the form of light.”

OCO L1500 provides focused downward illumination to avoid light pollution. The light spills in a wide pool on the ground, interrupted only by a wedge of shadow from the post.

“We have consciously focused on the way the light falls on the surface in front of the bollard, but also on the bollard itself and the interesting shadow created. OCO casts appealing light all around, and the design itself comes alive and takes on character at the same time,” says Claes Nilsson.

The mission for Lampas was to realise the designers’ vision of a simple and authentic light with clean lines.

“To ensure the right look, we have created a technical solution with no hatch in the post for technical access and the mounting flange hidden underground. As a result, OCO has a pure and simplistic look, as if the tube is emerging from the ground,” says Lighting Manager Søren Lauritsen.

The bollard light is easy to install, mounted on a base containing the connection box and base flange.

“Lampas lights are characterised by uncompromising simplicity, and so Cobe’s design is a perfect fit for us,” he says.
