FÆNGSLET Horsens

The transformation of the West Hall at FÆNGSLET (prison museum and cultural center) in Horsens combines old, yellow brickwork with new surfaces of corten steel. The new structure includes an entrance with porch and a covered inner courtyard that can now be used for concerts and other events.

The concept for the transformation project was the work of Cubo Arkitekter, as was some of the lighting. The circular lights in the arrival area and toilets are Cubo’s own design, OWEN.

Circular OWEN lights complement the rectangular surfaces both inside and out. The well-defined circular rim of the light contrasts with the vibrant surface of the corten steel and accentuates the character of the material.

OWEN is used as functional lighting for arrival areas to assist with orientation, providing discreet, diffuse and glare-free light distribution. Should the OWEN light happen to catch your eye, it delivers a mini design experience. With its small hinge openings, from which light spills out, OWEN is more than just a circular wall or ceiling light. It matches up to the quality of FÆNGSLET as a cultural institution and the West Hall transformation in general.

The West Hall project has received the Renoverprisen, which is awarded to such transformation projects by two major players in the Danish construction and renovation industries, Realdania and Grundejernes Investeringsfond. The actual Renoverprisen award takes the form of a statuette in the shape of a large orange R.

We have supplied a total of 161 OWEN lights in sizes of 260 mm and 320 mm for FÆNGSLET. The lights have been supplied in tunable white.
